Hmm,
Looks like a walking on a thin ice.
To be on a safe side I'm going to remove notail option and use only ASYNCH IO.
From the other hand, I can not tell how big is a benefit of using DIRECT IO. Is it worth of copying all of the database files back and forth ?
Thanks for the heads up !!!
Radovan

Subject: AW: [suse-oracle] ORA-01995 after enabling directio (setall) on Oracle 9.2.0.8 on SLES 9 SP3

Hi Radovan,

Please keep in mind, that the mount-option notail must be set BEFORE creating the files...doing so after creation won't affect the physical storage of already stored files...only new files will be stored for use with directio.

So if you want to enable it after creation of the database-files, you have to shutdown the DB, set the notail-option and then copy all files, so reiserfs will store them according to the notail-option in the blocks..
Otherwise you'll get directio-problems on most of the files while accessing the tail-blocks of the files...

Bye
 Frank

Hi,

seems like creating the password file without notail and then enabling
notail. Please do the following:

cd /opt/oracle/product/9ir2/dbs
mv orapwdevdb02 orapwdevdb02.notworking
cp -p orapwdevdb02.notworking orapwdevdb02

Then start your database. This should work then. Alternatively you may
recreate your passwordfile with orapw.

Clemens
